Jesus said, While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world. And now, You are the light of the world.
“I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” John 8:12
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
In these scriptures we see Jesus speaking of Himself as the light of the world as long as He is in the world, then after that He has told us to be the light of the world, and those who follow Him will have the light of life which is not to be hidden under a basket but to so shine that the people may see your good works and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.
It is for each man to find out the GOOD WORKS that God has planned for you to do in this world, not just live a self-focussed life. God has planned in advance the good works He wants you to do in this world.
When we hear the words Good works, know that we are not saved by our good works but we are saved to do good works. Anything that is done without the right intentions becomes a selfish act and God looks at the motives and intentions of our hearts. So first we have to set our heart right which happens when we receive Jesus Christ and by the Holy Spirit we are given a new heart of flesh removing the heart of stone.
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus FOR GOOD WORKS, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:9,10
So, know that good works don’t save you but we are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus and thus receive a new heart which is the heart of God which makes us think like Him and act like Him in this world to those in need, hungry and hurting as He cares for them.
We are the hands and feet of Jesus and we walk in this world as Jesus walked, doing what He did, as THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.
