Why do people often land up at the wrong end with wrong things, wrong relationships, wrong stuff? Because they are not looking for the right things!
Growing up I had ONE passion – MUSIC – and landed up in a place where there were regular live shows and went after it fully and every music I could get hold of – western, eastern or anything that had good music in it – growing up in 70’s starting with disco, then pop in the 80’s, and then rock, and had collected all music possible in the world for a lifetime ahead with music that would never get old, but never knew life would take this new turn which I had never planned – JESUS!
I started reading the Bible a lot right away and filled myself with scriptures which I had never known nor tasted as I never knew anything about it nor ever came across in my life. Immediately I knew this was what I needed though I was not looking for it and this was what everyone else needed in their lives, so started telling everyone about what or Whom I found – JESUS. I din’t no more need something from the outside to keep me “elated”, but what I needed was inside me and could not hold it in.
But the “music-lifetime-plan” – what to do with it now? Some or most of the words or lyrics of the songs were not rhyming with the scriptures which was alive inside me now – there was a conflict between both!
I was anyway not much into all those heavy metal stuff which my friends were into those days with all the skulls, skeletons and tattoos, but mine was just the “nice ones” and not “so harmful” as those I felt. I wanted to keep my music and did not want to let it go and needed a confirmation that its okay to listen to those, after all they were not so bad as those real “bad” heavy metal ones with all the skulls, skeletons and tattoos, so approached a person who used to come to my room to talk about Jesus to me those days and asked him, “Is there anything wrong listening to this, this and that music? (naming a few)” He turned around and told me,
“WHY DON’T YOU LOOK FOR THE RIGHT ONES INSTEAD?”
I knew I got the right answer and did not have to ask him anything more and knew what I needed to do next! This person was just direct and spoke the truth than trying to be nice or be politically correct about it – we always need such people around us to tell us the truth as it is and we need to be the same when someone else is asking us for answers.
There would be things which do not look so harmful or not-so-bad comparatively – but thats because you are comparing yourselves with the wrong things and the wrong people – there is only One if you wanna compare yourself with someone – JESUS and His Word that is perfect – compare yourself and all that you do with Jesus and His Word as He is the perfect image we are being made into day by day.
